Katangi Integrated Water & Sanitation

The concept of the project is to increase access to safe water, improved income, hygiene and sanitation standards within Katangi project area in Yatta sub County. The project is committed to improve food security through sustainable and farming technologies and enhance hygiene and sanitation to a total 1,040 households within a period of 16 Months within the project area.

Project Objectives

To have increased access to safe water for 960 school going children through installation of Four roof water harvesting plastic tanks in 4 primary schools at Katangi area.

To increase access to water and improved income through food/horticultural production for 120 community households by employing digging, extension and di-silting of 8 water pans.

Access and adoption of improved Hygiene and sanitation standards for 1,040 through Child Hygiene Sanitation and Transformation (CHAST) andcommunity Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approaches.

 The project is so far serving a total of 949 pupils and 720 community beneficiaries. The base line report shows that there is great need of water harvesting projects as well as Hygiene and sanitation programs. The project area has a one of the best soils for water harvesting structures which if emphasized there will be significant relieve for the residents who are annually affected by shortage of water.
